Homiez Update:
It was a great day to be out cool in the shade but hot in the sun. Life was pretty safe and folks was nice.
We gave out 19 gallons and 2 cases of water and clothes as well. That is the most since June. I am very happy that I posted needs and 3 folks were inspired by God to come through for uWo.
Thank you all.
My wife went out today on clothes duty and met 2 women whom have weighed on her. One is prego and has already lost 2 other kids to the state but she worries about this one child in specific. Then the other chic is upset because her boyfriend left her, not because she has HIV, he was cool with that, but that the other woman had more money that her.….Yea I shook my head too.
We heard a lot of intel about the local ministries NOT doing what they are supposed to be doing and how they are treating folks, now this aint intel coming from trouble makers or known problems. Some are new and some have been here for the 3 years I been down. Apparently what happens is you get “IN”by having and ID checked and recorded annnnnnd then you get put out for any small thing before you can eat or get the services provided. That is sad. For whatever reason, it seems there is a scramble to make money off the homeless and instead of working together they are at arms with one another.
Which brings me to my next topic of: people trying to get notoriety off the backs of the homeless. Yes they do. It’s a sad
day when you have to be like the folks Jesus described in:
Matt 6 5-8
5“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to
pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others.
Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6
But when you pray, go into your room, close
the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what
is done in secret, will reward you. 7
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling
like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many
words. 8 Do not be like them, for your
Father knows what you need before you ask him.
So we see a Church van set up on the corner, away from the actual heart of the Homeless area (they didn’t know it but they were
next to where the drug dealers hang), and they are giving out free sox and underwear ok, cool. SO we see
this van and folks and we always make it a point to meet and introduce ourselves to new folks and churches to see if they want to help out or team up. (they never ever do, everbody wants to do their own thing)
So we drive up to the corner they are on and they have the Channel 6 news crew filming them. FLOORED…yea
Really?
So we made a group decision not to go over to them or say anything and we went on finishing our route.
Rain,
sleet, snow, heat, ice, Christmas, Easter, Fathers day…if it falls on Sunday
were out in it. Were more reliable than the US postal service man!
But I haven’t ever called the News to come film us. uWo is not there to get glory off the pain
and misery of others. Now I had a few folks email me when they saw the report funny thing is when I got on the
website to watch the segment…it wasn’t there.
Reward received in FULL.
We had a Homie who needed some grief counceling due to his dads death that morning, we got happy with a guy who had
his bus ticket home to his family, we gave a camp beans to cook and you would have thought it was Xmas…..that is my joy. That is the Joy of any uWo volunteer.
We go where others wont go to reach those forgotten, those who are unWanted.
